A RANT AND SOMETHING LOVELY
I just read an article about the 21st RCD Symposium that was held in Tunisia where a lot of very important people were present including a certain Mr. Chedli Ayari who is a economics professor and a former minister.
Now to look at what he was talking about, we need to go back a little bit to 2002 where another very important man, this time a certain President Ben Ali called upon the United Nations to accept a world solidarity fund to overcome the global economic crisis. So on Tuesday Ayari called upon everyone to tighten their belts and start implementing the recommendation previously outlined. A recommendation that I should add was in fact unanimously adopted by the UN that same year.
I’m sorry, this may just be me in my normal ranting way, but this was put forward in 2002. I will say that again, this was unanimously accepted in 2002! That means it was 7 years ago. Seven years ago and NOW they are talking about implementing it? I mean I understand that these things take time, but why are we putting humanism, solidarity and sustainability on the back-burners for seven years?! Surely the rehabilitation of the state should be something that is forefront in UN’s need to do list.
I think that perhaps the only good thing that has come from this is it has given Ayari a chance to call upon the creation of a United Nations Council for security and development. Once again, just me or should this not already exist? Hopefully we won’t need to be waiting for another 7 years before this even gets looked at.
Arrrghh…
Anyway onto other things because this is just making me a bit to heated up at the moment.
I am going to go onto brighter news I was told the other day about a scheme that is taking place in London right now called 10-10. Which different companies sign up to a promise to reduce their carbon footprint by 10% by the year 2010. A bunch of different companies have signed up to this including corporate organizations and even west end theatres. I really like the idea of this and started looking into other companies that are doing the same kind of thing. And found one called Enigin that is an energy saving company that claims they can reduce energy levels in big corporations by 20-40%. That is amazing, can you even begin to think about the impact it could have on the world environment if we were all able to reduce by this amount?
So that’s it for today, an rant and something lovely about Enigin!
