N Korea Ready For a ’Sacred'War

N Korea Ready For a ’Sacred'War

The South Korean Republic has recently held the largest and most impressive military exercise for this year as a sign of its military power and as a part of the preparations for any eventual military conflict with the North. Rulers of the South have claimed that to be a military pride exercise that is to highlight the capabilities of the South Korean Republic and to strengthen the confidence of public in the military abilities of its country.
However, the North has condemned the exercise and has announced its position against it holding that that is a clear sign of provocation aimed to increase the tension rather than display any military power. The North has said they are not going to respond the provocation since it was not worth it and that they will stand still in order to prove they are above such simple provocations. However, their leader has announced his people and troops are ready for sacred war to prove their dominance and defend their views over the conflict zones of the Korean peninsula.
On the other hand, the South Korean president attended the military exercise of the South Korean troops and said that the South would no longer tolerate any acts of violence from the North and would respond properly and reasonably to any shelling if such occurs from its Northern opponent. However, the public in the South seems to be way more negative in relation to a future war. Thousands of people have condemned the military actions between the two countries and have expressly disagreed with the increasing tension and the potential threats of conflicts. South Korea is enjoying the support of the US acting like a self storage of its troops and still any future conflict would have devastating consequences for the peninsula.

David Cameron claims the protestors were responsible for violence in the student protests – in reality it is all Nick Clegg’s fault

David Cameron claims the protestors were responsible for violence in the student protests - in reality it is all Nick Clegg’s fault

David Cameron’s assertion that violent protestors were responsible for the attack on Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, as well as numerous other incidents in Parliament Square and a number of other locations in central London, is evidently correct in legal terms.

However, it is his government’s decision to hike tuition fees by an unprecedented level that is the root cause of all of the violence and unrest that London has had to contend with in the recent student protests. Precisely, it is the Liberal Democrats with their cowardly gesture towards maintaining peace within the coalition ahead of party loyalty that has most aggravated both current and future students, as well as many other people opposed to the tuition fee rise.

The leader of the Liberal Democrats (or should I say Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party?), Nick Clegg, has made an astonishing u-turn that has stunned even those who remember Thatcher’s infamous 1990 Poll Tax initiative, or the French student and workers protests of 1968. A politician promising to wipe out tuition fees, but later advocating the trebling of them – is like someone offering to give you a £50 voucher for your groceries, but instead asking you to pay treble the price for your receipt.

The coalition claims that the new policy will provide a better deal for students and graduates. Sure, perhaps if you are the owner of a successful email marketing company or a London-based corporation, a few thousand pounds here and there is just a drop in the bucket. However, few people want to end up in tens of thousands worth in debt at a time when they are starting to raise a mortgage deposit and maybe even a pension fund. Likewise, some students and parents of students want to pay the fees upfront so that they don’t have to be burdened with high interest rates on their debts in the future. Unfortunately, following the passing of the vote on December 9, it appears there is little the country can do to prevent the policy from becoming enshrined into English law.

The EU Sigh Towards the East

The EU Sigh Towards the East

The EU has always been working in closer cooperation with the most developed states in the world as the organisation itself is getting more and more powerful. The foot prints of that powerful economic developments are easily observed – the rise of the value of the Euro as a currency, the cooperation of the member states in criminal and state security matters, the integration of cultures and capital sharing with no boundaries. This all enhance the powers of the community and offers large range of prospectives especially with the markets that are potentially valuable for the Union.
A recent trend is the closer cooperation between the EU and Russia and its dependants. The EU is almost completely dependant on Russia in terms of natural gas. The green fuel is the main object of discussions and trade treaties between the federation and the member states of the European Union. Furthermore, additional points of cooperation would be concluded quite soon as Russia accepted to work in closer contact with NATO and thus indirectly concludes some essential matters with the EU which member states are almost all participants in the NATO organisation. The trade with metals, coal and other resources is also quite important for both sides as Russia needs the European market and on the other hand, the EU is quite satisfied with the reasonable prices and the quality of Russian export.
Apart from that, the Union is expanding its views on cooperation with Russia-dependants indirectly. Thus member states often act as ambassadors of the community and an example is France that offered quite a large field of cooperation with Kazakhstan – the Russia-dependent republic would be pleased to work with the French as they offered an expanded discussion on the entrance of Kazakhstan in the World Trade Organisation and are also ready to invest in its space programmes which are jointly conducted with the russians.

A Rising China

A Rising China

During the last decade, the world witnessed the awakening of the so called Chinese force – once a powerful empire, China came on the top of the world once again …economically. But what we observe nowadays is a China that is not only advancing economically but that is making a significant effort to develop its military techniques, technologies and powers by taking advantage of its strong economical position in the world right now.
This is a particularly interesting observation since China is being at times quite aggressive and shows the attitude and the confidence of a world power. An example would be the issue between North and South Korea in May when the North attacked a warship of the South and the military personnel was killed in the attack. China, in the case, did not take a position showing that the Chinese indirectly support the North Korean Republic and that as a piece of economical jewellery in the global development, the Chinese can impose standards of their own when coming to judging violence and peace.
On the other hand, China is active – the government has announced itself as against the distribution and armament with nuclear weapons and ,however, still is believed to be developing some new technologies in the area. The Chinese seem to have no interest in the global matters like the environmental preservation policies to reduce the carbon emissions in the air and definitely decline to participate actively in such initiatives. The Chinese overreached the amount of emissions they were allowed under the international agreements governing the issue and yet they seem to have no opinion on the matter that would be a valuable one – still they use the coal power plans that are among the most dangerous environmentally.

Immigrants, Attack!!!

Immigrants, Attack!!!

No matter whether you apply for a locum doctor job or a builder position, it is almost sure that in times of unemployment the choice would be hard to make for the employer….but much harder it would be to get accepted for a potential employee. And all this is happening in times where the immigration was one of the main engines of the UK economy… nowadays it seems to an obstacle.
After the 2000, the immigrants in the UK increased with almost 50% till it reached the enormous 5 million people today. This is hard to imagine – from a country that relied completely on its own almost a century back, in the 2000s the UK was mainly supported by labour force from abroad. Visas were easily granted and EU workers were more than welcome. Jobs were easily found within any sector as the economy was flourishing and the demand was increasing. However, this is not the picture now… and problems start to cause disputes.
The problems are that many of the natives in the UK start losing their jobs as influenced by the world economic crisis. Additionally, the number of immigrants is likely to increase since people that cannot realise themselves in their states would start looking for another destination – and more fruitful destination is there than the UK, one of the strongest states in Europe famous for its millions of immigrants and ease of access.
However, the government should take steps to prevent that – currently the UK is not in need of labour force and qualified workers are hardly needed as many of these qualified lie down in their homes watching X-Factor and waiting for the phone call calling them for an interview. Times have changed and British people need to realise that – the immigration needs to be cut, access requirements added and economy control established.

The Secret Services – They still Like Torture!

The Secret Services - They still Like Torture!

Just days ago it became clear that the UK government is about to pay a huge compensation for the claimants that were subject to inhuman treatment while being held in custody as suspects of terrorism. This is a clear attempt to hide the truth behind a pile of money and the government seems ready to pay immediately any price just to make those people claiming silent – the public is somehow feared by the authorities and the truth seemingly needs no exposure according to the UK secret services.
But why is that so? Is it only because of the things that these people that now claim have experienced as being held in custody? Is is because of the treatment they received and the tons of diesel used to transport them around the world as potato bags? Or probably there is another reason, much stronger and much important for the government and the secret services. A reason that many investigators and anti-terrorists rely on and that is aimed to remain secret for the public.
This reason, as supposed by several legal experts the name of whom need no mentioning, is probably because the secret services would still be after the suspects under the old approaches. Undoubtedly, no human right can be overrode by the lives of million people who depend on the results from investigations of potential terrorism threats and many would argue that with or without torture, the result is important as thousands of lives might be gone just in a second of recklessness by the authorities. However, what is the reason of torturing suspects without even having enough of evidence? What is the point of treating a human being inhumanly when the cause you are fighting for is peace?
These questions continue to bother many human rights activists and a terrorist or not, a human being is entitled to some basic forms of protection of life … what are secret services going to do about it? Are we going to see more millions of pounds vanishing in compensation?

Negligence Compensation In Common Law

Negligence Compensation In Common Law

No matter whether you have suffered from the negligence of an incompetent surgeon who would be better placed on the locum doctor jobs market, or a careless driver who crashes into your house, you need to turn to the law of tort for claiming under the negligent actions of the injurer. Many citizens have begun to loudly criticise the UK government for not valuably estimating the negligence disputes and resolution needs in the English tort law and that this particular aspect of the law persists to be a part of the doctrine of precedents in the common law system without any attempts by the government to make proposals for Parliamentary issued legislation on the topic.
What the people are particularly concerned with is the issue that the tort law is expanding – the demand for resolution of tort cases has significantly increased over the last several years and people find it quite complicated to look for their duties and responsibilities as individuals in the case law and turn to solicitors for advice in the absence of any written and passed law on the issue. This causes severe disturbances in the process of administration of justice since people still have no particular image of the law of torts, many of them have not even heard of the issue when asked about the problems of establishing solutions to negligence disputes.
However, the judiciary and the Parliament still claim that the existing rules within the doctrine of common law are quite satisfactory and that there is no need for further development of the law on negligence – apparently, the common law works, evolves and adjusts itself to the social conditions of the time. People might start to turn their heads to legal journals more often that ever and start considering the common law as quite a potential source of ultimate justice over the matters of professional and individual negligence cases.

The Upcoming Review On Enterprise

The Upcoming Review On Enterprise

Another aim seems to be advancing within the ruling political formation in the UK (and the news was available in freebies all around London) – the government has announced its plans to improve the state of the UK’s enterprise and redevelop some of its approaches towards dealing with small and medium-sized business organisations. The review and the special report on the issue would be conducted under the supervision of the famous Lord Young, a home secretary during Margaret Thatcher’s governance.
The first of the aims of the report would be to find out an approach for reducing the prices for the enterprise players within the system – according to Young, the main problems with bureaucracy are costly and quite inefficient for small firms and business owners and this leads to several consequences – increase in the expenses for these organisations and additional demotivation for people to start their own business.
Another important issue to be tackled is the access that small businesses have to finances and funding – the procedure for establishing a business is quite complex and additional complications always appear to be related with the finance system that is time consuming and ineffective at times. Additionally, Lord Young would focus on the matters of communication between the government and the firm owners – it has been reported that when discussing a new policy, especially in trade and commerce, government seems to poorly consult small organisations with commercial activities and some of the small and medium-sized businesses suffer from being ignored by the policy issuing process of the executives.
Finally, Young would put a lot of effort into researching the potential ways for encouraging people to seek establishing their own business rather that aiming for an employee position since the demotivation mentioned above and the complex way of registration and finance would estop many from developing otherwise successful business plans.

New Student Finance Scheme by Lord Browne

New Student Finance Scheme by Lord Browne

The loans that the UK gives to its students have always been a tick-tacking bomb that is ready to explode every second and cause debates larger than the ones when the war in Iraq was started. The politicians keep roaming around the topic and every ruling party appears to be having a different opinion on the topic. As happened with many issues of public interest (self-defence laws for example or the impartiality of the judiciary), again this time a commission was appointed to make a general research and advise on how the system should change.
Lord Browne was the person to deliver the report and some significant points arise from it that can feed the discussion boards for quite a while. Firstly, since the education in England is fixed upon 3,290 pounds this year, he proposes a rather American approach – he proposes that universities should come up with their own financial decisions depending on the costs their course would consume – this means that in different universities a student may pay differently for studying law for example.
Another view he presented in the one on loans. Now a student is completely entitled to get the fee loan and pay for his tuition fees under to condition to start repaying this money to the government once that student is earning 15,000 pounds annually. However, Lord Browne considers this quite harsh on the young people so he advised on lifting the income limit to 21,000 – this is what seems quite convenient for students and parents (but after all education is not labelled free stuff uk).
Everything else he proposed is basically centred around the idea that a change is not essential but would be good for the educational system – several slight changes might actually significantly reform and improve the budget part of the educational system.

South Korea On Sexism

South Korea On Sexism

South Korea is finally facing a debate on an issue that has been ignored for too long by both politicians and private organisations. It seems like in a democratic and human rights orientied country like South Korea, sexism and discrimination are still issues that need serious attention and approach to be solved.

After the elections in South Korea, a member of the newly elected parliament announced that in order to work in television, a woman ’must sleep her way to the top’. This raised the concerns of public authorities, members of the society and human rights oriented organisations that fight against discrimination. The rocords show that a working woman in South Korea earns 63% of what a man in her position would earn. This is a sufficient ground for discussion and people wonder why it was necessary for a parliamentary representative to announce that in order for some discussion to begin.

In their working place, South Korean women are facing constant pressure as being underestimated and considered less capable of problem solving than men. This is, of course, a ground for discussion on the issue of sexual discrimination and organisations seem to be willing to interfere in these practices and proclaim equality of genders. It is quite difficult to see a woman in a high position in the big South Korean companies (completely different from the UK where, for example, many of the red diesel Halifax representatives and members are female). The market is harsh on women and they find it less and less probable to get on the career develpment track, especially once they give birth and settle a family.

These discussion topics raised above are quite disturbing for the South Korean Republic as the country aims to achieve wider international recognition as a human rights oriented country and a state of democratic development.
