Scape-goats & Bad Behaviour…
The new series of the ever watchable and awe-inspiringly funny The Apprentice kicked off last night with an explosive episode containing…well, lots of mistakes and people looking a bit thick. Not just any people, but some of England’s finest business acumen. This is something we’ve all come to expect of course, but this first episode was especially brutal, and made the project manager Edward look like a less than desirable employee. So it begs the question: why do law professionals and accountants often come off looking the worse in the media? I’m not just talking the Alan Sugar based show, either. Watch a gangster film and it’s usually the politician or the accountant type that gets gunned down first or last. But there again, the murky world of law and order has always been entangled with criminality, and then the credit-crunch came along and anyone who worked with numbers or was supposed to be administering “justice” suddenly got a right earful, and justifiably so, under the terrible circumstances…
So, what’s your opinion: is this harsh image deserving? Or should we calm down and find a new less damaged scape-goat in the way of the politicians right at the top of the food-chain?
Well, one thing’s for sure, there’ll be another scandal coming along soon enough, whether it’s DNA Testing , food, politics or health and safety. We’ll just have to wait to find out what it’s going to be…
