Writing related – scam
I am a professional writer, and I get paid to write content for people’s blogs, website, advertising campaigns and other projects, and I have recently been the victim of a scam artist that took my content and never paid me for it. This was a complete nightmare at first and I felt so angry and upset that someone would betray my trust like that. I am telling you because I want you to know what to look out for, and how to deal with it if you should ever end up in the same situation.
Unfortunately unlike in other areas of work, there are no companies such as Enigin Scam Busters, working to expose scam companies or people, and usually you will not know who the scam artist is until you are the one that has not been paid for your work! I was contracted privately through a forum, to complete a 20 article job lot. I completed my work and sent in my invoice, then days later I received an email from Paypal saying that an Echeque had been paid in to my account, but had problems with it. I contacted the lady, who sorted the problem, and payment was completed. I was then given a much bigger task, which I completed, and received the same Paypal message. I received two more large orders for work, and as she had sorted the problem before, I did the work, expecting the problem to be resolved. It never was.
To cut a long story short. The lady in question (who I later found out went under a number of different names) disappeared. I then had to copy scape all of the articles that I had written, and find out where they had been posted, contact the website owners, and offer two options. The first was that they took the content down so that I would use it, and the second was that they pay me for it. If they did not comply I had to file a DNC against them.
